Rain on the way, steam bath will follow

DETROIT – Our afternoon and early evening plans will be dry and pleasant, but rain showers approaching from the west should increase in coverage overnight.

A stray thunderstorm is even possible late at night. Lows in the mid 60s (17° Celsius for you Canadians). Southeast wind shifting to the south at 7 to 12 mph.

Showers and a few thunderstorms are possible to start our Friday, but those should move out by mid-morning and partly cloudy skies will develop.

MOST of us will see a rain-free rest of the day, but rapidly increasing heat and humidity could be just enough to trigger isolated thunderstorms very late in the afternoon or early Friday evening. IF any storms develop, they could be strong but, again, I expect coverage to be very limited right now.

Highs in the mid to upper 80s (30° Celsius), but the humidity will make it feel like it's in the low 90s (33° Celsius).

At least the developing southwest wind will blow at 10 to 20 mph, so we'll have a nice breeze out there. Friday's sunrise is at 6:12 AM, and Friday's sunset is at 9:07 p.m.

Partly cloudy overnight Friday night. It's going to be warm, muggy and uncomfortable if you don't have air conditioning, with lows only in the low 70s (but remember that it's going to take all night to get there).

Partly cloudy, hot and humid on Saturday, with highs near 90° (perhaps a bit warmer south of 8 Mile).

The humidity will make it feel more like upper 90s, so it wouldn't surprise me to see the National Weather Service issue a Heat Advisory on Saturday. If you'll be outside for extended periods of time Saturday, remember to PROACTIVELY stay hydrated with water or sports drinks…if you wait until AFTER you're thirsty, it's generally too late and you're already dehydrated. Also remember that alcohol dehydrates you so, while a nice cold beer might sound good on a hot, steamy day, the alcohol in the beer is NOT good for you in this weather.

Don't accuse me of being Mr. Downer ...I've seen more stories than I can count about people ending up in the hospital with heat exhaustion (or worse, heat stroke) because they drank too much alcohol on a very hot day). All I'm saying is to enjoy the hot summer weekend day (if you like hot weather, that is), and do it safely.

Partly cloudy, warm and muggy Saturday night, with lows in the mid 70s. This will be a very difficult night for those without air conditioning.

Partly cloudy, hot and humid again on Sunday, but this time we have the chance for some afternoon thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 80s, with the humidity making it feel like mid-to-upper 90s, so the National Weather Service might have to consider another Heat Advisory…stay tuned.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Sunday night, with lows in the upper 60s.

Partly cloudy, cooler and less humid on Monday, with highs in the low 80s.

Mostly clear Monday night, with lows in the mid 60s.

Partly cloudy on Tuesday (slight chance of a shower as a weak front crosses the area), with highs in the low 80s.

Partly cloudy Tuesday night, with lows in the low 60s.

Mostly sunny on Wednesday, with highs in the low 80s.

Partly cloudy on Thursday, with highs in the mid 80s.
