Weather forecast: Scattered rain, thundershowers across SE Michigan

DETROIT – Scattered rain and thundershowers this Thursday morning will slow you down in spots as you head out into a very warm Metro Detroit.

Morning temps are around 70 degrees or a bit warmer and warming into the low or mid 80s this afternoon. The middle part of today should be on the dry side, but it’s anything but dry. The humidity will keep climbing and the wind will start cranking too. Warm and muggy with breezes SW 10-25 mph gusting 35 to 40 mph at times and those are non-storm related winds.

We have a Marginal Risk for severe weather later today and tonight for some gusty storm winds and hail.

The warm and muggy air will stick around Friday and Saturday. The heaviest rains over the next week will likely be late Thursday into and through Friday morning. Tomorrow morning’s commute will be a problem due to these rains and there is a Slight Risk for severe weather tomorrow.

Chance for storms Friday afternoon, evening

A cold front will drape over the area as the spark and better chance for strong afternoon and evening storms. Highs will again climb into the low and mid 80s between showers and the breezes will be a little lighter SW 10-17 gusting over 20 mph at times.

Saturday sky conditions may improve into the by late afternoon, but plan on more rain and thunderstorms to start the weekend. It will feel nicer on Sunday as slightly cooler and less humid air hits us under mostly sunny skies and temps near 80 degrees to end the weekend. An early look into next week calls for showers and storms coming and going Monday through Wednesday. So -- for the 4th of July Tuesday, the models today are keeping it mostly dry with an isolated thundershower or two. You can track radar and stay ahead of the showers and storms with our Local4Casters app.
