SE Michigan gets ready for winter weather

Metro Detroit could see inch of snow Sunday

DETROIT – It might be colder than normal, but that's not stopping people from lacing up their skates at Campus Martius. They were bundled up Saturday night but not looking forward to what's in store.

Detroit residents remember last winter with the record-breaking snow, so can we expect more of the same? According to the experts, we might be in luck.

"Long-term projections have suggested that we would not have a repeat of last winter, but we have to be concerned about this early Arctic blast. This is pretty unusual stuff," said Local 4Caster Paul Gross.

That harsh winter has already had one consequence: Skyrocketing road salt prices that may affect our stockpile this year.

But it's not all doom and gloom. There are still plenty of us who can't wait for the snow.

"There's nothing really to be afraid of. I mean, it's Michigan," said one fan of the snow. "It's beautiful, all of the lights. I love taking the children sledding. What more fun is there than spending time with your family, having a snowball fight? It's wonderful."

Metro Detroit may see only a dusting Saturday night and possibly an inch Sunday. It's unusually cold, but it's what most can expect this time of year.
