WIXOM, Mich. -

Severe thunderstorms packing high winds knocked down trees and power lines across parts of Michigan, leaving tens of thousands of people without power.

Wednesday morning, DTE Energy said it had 40,000 customers still without power. The utility said it has brought in crews from New York, Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania to help.

The majority of the outages break down as follows:

  • Oakland County:  15,000
    Wayne County:  8,000
  • Livingston County: 9,000
  • Washtenaw County: 4,000
