Showers and storms possible Saturday afternoon, warm

Highs near 80°F

DETROIT – Mothers' Day Weekend will be a relatively warm one. Showers and thunderstorms will race across the region, too. The sun may not shine through the clouds over Detroit and Southeast Michigan as often as it did during the week, but it will not be a washout.

Attending indoor events like Critters Up Close at the Hands On Museum in Ann Arbor, Southwest Detroit Commitment Day 2015 at Western International High School in Detroit, or the Spring Concert at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit is a good idea with showers and thunderstorms possible. Scattered downpours with lightning and gusty winds will form after 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon as temperatures rise close to 80 degrees. Baseball fans can expect an on-time start for the 1pm ET Detroit Tigers' game against the Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park, but the ride home will be wet in spots after the final out.

Showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast Saturday evening for students going to dinner and prom. Caution on wet, slippery roads is a must.

The weather will settle down after midnight, Saturday night to Sunday morning. Temps will fall to 60 degrees in Detroit and in the upper 50s in Detroit's suburbs under mostly to partly cloudy skies.

Happy Mothers' Day, Sunday! For all of Southeast Michigan, families need to prepare for scattered showers and a few thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, again. If mom wants a quiet day at home, listening to the pitter-patter of raindrops on the wind sill can be very relaxing. Otherwise, indoor activities at movie theatres, music centers and museums are good ideas. Baseball fans will need to grab their ponchos for the 8pm Tigers-Royals baseball game. Highs will be in the low to middle 70s.

Monday will have lingering showers with daytime temps in the low 70s. Mostly sunny skies return to the Motor City area Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but it becomes much cooler. Nighttime and early morning lows will be in the 40s; excellent conditions for airing out the home. Afternoon temps will be between 60 and 65 degrees.
