DETROIT - After last week's historic floods, more wet weather returns to Detroit and Southeast Michigan starting Tuesday and lasting, at least, through the work-week.
With partly cloudy skies, temps will be in the middle and upper 60s, and it will be a bit muggy.
Families going to mid-day events like the Back To School Festival at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, which begins at 10am ET, will have warm and humid conditions greet them. Lunchtime temperatures will be in the middle 70s, and a low pressure system sets up over the Great Lakes giving an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms for the afternoon rush hour.
Tuesday afternoon will be warm and humid with showers and thunderstorms developing after 2pm ET. Highs will be near 80 degrees. The National Weather Service has put Detroit and all of Southeast Michigan in the "Slight Risk" category for strong to severe storms. Some storms will contain heavy downpours that may aggravate high water levels in vulnerable spots from last week. Frequent lightning, damaging winds and hail are possible, too. Motorists will need to be on guard for large puddles and ponds in some areas, and homeowners will need to monitor the conditions of their basements.
Evening showers and storms will linger Tuesday evening with temperatures in the 70s.
Storms will dissipate after sunset, which is at 8:28 p.m. ET. Overnight lows will be in the middle and upper 60s, and it will remain muggy. Air conditioners will need to be put back into practice.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will have a repeat of the same type of weather with the swirl of low pressure parking itself over Michigan. Each day will feel summer-like with warmth and humidity. Morning and night-time lows will be in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs will be near or above 80 degrees. Each day will have scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain at times.
