DETROIT – The Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday weekend continues with slippery weather Sunday and chillier conditions Monday. Colder air returns during the shortened work-week.

Sunday morning will be snowy and slippery with temperatures near freezing. Before dawn, rain and snow showers will be mixed. Many major roads and highways will be wet, but ramps, bridges, overpasses and sidewalks will be more slippery and icy.

After sunrise, there will be scattered snow showers. No heavy accumulation is expected. One quarter to three quarters of an inch of new snow will fall. Families going to services or traveling to the 2015 North American International Auto Show must remain alert for scattered slick spots on roads, parking lots and walkways.

Sunday afternoon will be chilly with highs in the middle 30s with leftover snow showers and flurries. Streets will remain slippery with colder air moving in by evening. Skies will be mostly cloudy.

Sunday evening will be mostly cloudy and colder. Temperatures will fall below freezing right after the puck drops at Joe Louis Arena where the Red Wings go against the Buffalo Sabres at 8pm ET.

Sunday night will be cold with temperatures well below freezing. Areas with fresh or melted snow will freeze quickly. Streets and sidewalks will be icy in isolated areas by Monday morning. Overnight lows will be near 20 degrees.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday will be chilly and partly sunny. Families will need to gather their winter coats and dress with an extra layer and hats, scarves and gloves while traveling to and from commemorations and volunteer activities. Highs will be near 30 degrees in the afternoon.

There is another chance of snow Tuesday with temps in the 20s. The rest of the brief work-week will be cold and winter-like with partly sunny to cloudy skies. Daytime temps will be in the 20s. Nighttime lows will be in the teens.
