DETROIT – Winter-like conditions will provide the perfect setting for the Meridian Winter Blast at Campus Martius in downtown Detroit.
Saturday afternoon will be cold with highs in the upper teens and wind chills near zero or just higher. Snow will arrive from the west during the second half of the afternoon. Areas in Lenawee, Washtenaw and Livingston counties will be the first to see snowflakes by 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. Afterward, snow will move across Detroit and the rest of Southeast Michigan.
Anyone with dinner plans will need to drive and walk safely on slippery paved surfaces. Snow will be light but may reduce visibility at times Saturday evening. Temperatures will remain in the middle and lower teens.
By midnight and into early morning Sunday, 1 to 2 inches of new snow will have fallen. Even if there are no advisories, Detroiters must remain cautious and alert when traveling late at night or early in the morning. Overnight lows will be near 10 degrees with wind chills just below zero.
Sunday will be mostly cloudy and cold with scattered snow showers throughout the day. Highs will be in the low 20s, and wind chills will be near 10 or lower much of the day.
Polar bear-weather returns early next week with subzero temperatures at night and in the morning on Monday and Tuesday. Daytime highs will be in the low to middle and upper teens.
