Some snow overnight, colder

Lows in the mid 20s

DETROIT – Happy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! This evening will remain mostly cloudy with the mercury falling back below freezing at night. Then snow rolls in for the trip back to work and school.

Monday evening will see temperatures near freezing. Families volunteering or traveling to and from holiday commemorations must remain careful on ramps, bridges and overpasses while driving and sidewalks, parking lots and driveways while walking.

Colder air arrives Monday night with snow diving from the northwest. Overnight lows will retreat to the middle and low 20s. Light snow will cruise through areas south of M-59/Hall Road, including the City Of Detroit.

Tuesday morning will be snowy for drivers returning to work and school. Even with a light coating to an inch, untreated roads and sidewalks will be treacherous for the greater volumes of travelers. Temps will remain in the 20s; below freezing.

Tuesday afternoon will have snow showers. Some areas will receive a half an inch to an inch or two of new snow by the end of the day and Tuesday night. Highs will be near the freezing mark; 32 degrees.

Lingering snow showers will affect Wednesday with morning temps in the teens and afternoon readings near 30 degrees. Thursday and Friday will be drier with partly to mostly cloudy skies and cold conditions. Highs will be in the middle and upper 20s. Lows will be in the teens.

Some snow showers return for, at least, the first half of the weekend.
