Southeast Michigan gets amazing stretch of November weather

Plus: A disaster is unfolding halfway around the world

DETROIT – Before getting to the forecast, I want to update a weather situation that I told you about over the weekend on Local 4 News.

I don't understand why nobody is talking about this, but a potential weather disaster is imminent halfway around the world in the Arabian Sea. There, a hurricane (they call them Tropical Cyclones) named Chapala is heading toward the Yemen coast, and will hit today either as a Category 1 or 2 storm. Hurricanes are extremely rare in this part of the world: Depending upon which report you read, either three or no hurricanes have hit that coast since the 1890s.

Back in 1990, a tropical depression (not even a tropical storm or hurricane) hit that area, and the resulting flooding killed ninety people. Now in 2015, the situation is much more precarious because al-Qaeda controls some cities in the storm's path, and I am greatly concerned about the government's ability (or inability) to alert and evacuate its people there. Ben Bailey will have an update later today on Local 4 News between 5:30 and 6 p.m.
