Space Station flies overhead tonight and sunny skies tomorrow

Skies will hopefully clear in time!

Gradual clearing has slowly commenced across our far northern suburbs, and this clearing trend will hopefully make it far enough south in time to see the International Space Station fly overhead this evening!  If you’ve never seen this before, it’s pretty cool.

Tonight’s flyby will begin at 9:07 p.m., and if you have a good view of the southwest, you’ll see a bright “star” just fade into view (it doesn’t come up from the horizon), and then travel at a slow, steady speed upward, nearly overhead, and then lowering in the east-north before fading from view.  The total time for this transit is five minutes, so there’s plenty of time to see it.  The Space Station will appear particularly bright this time, so it’ll be a real treat.  Just take a moment as it flies over us to think about the men and women aboard conducting important science and medical research.

Cloudy on Thursday with rain developing in the afternoon.  Interestingly, depending  upon what time the rain arrives, there could be some wet snowflakes across our North Zone.  Our in-house RPM model (below) suggests that the wet snow is possible.

Keep in mind, however, that temperatures will be above freezing, so some of this snow would melt.  IF any snow accumulates, the most likely locations would be grassy areas and elevated surfaces (decks, mailboxes, cars, etc.), and any accumulation should be well under an inch before the eventual changeover to rain.  But for most of us, it’ll be just rain developing Thursday afternoon.  Highs in the mid 40s (8 degrees Celsius).

Rain is likely Thursday night, with lows near 40 degrees (4 to 5 degrees Celsius).

Any last showers first thing Friday morning should end, leaving us dry for most of the day.  Highs in the low 50s (11 degrees Celsius).
