Sun with clouds, chilly Saturday morning

Highs in the low 40s

DETROIT – Once again, Detroit's weekend is the time to take a break from the cold. Saturday and Sunday daytime temps will be 40 degrees or more as families get ready for the holidays and the Lions compete for the NFL Playoffs.

Saturday morning will be partly cloudy and chilly with temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s. As families prepare for Christmas and Santa Claus, the weather and Mother Nature will keep conditions dry. It will be good for hanging decorations and holiday shopping.

Saturday afternoon will not be as cold under partly to mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will rise to the low 40s for people going ice skating or visiting The Henry Ford, the Cranbrook Institute of Science or the Wright Museum.

Saturday evening will become cloudy with temperatures in the upper 30s.

Friends and relatives traveling around town to view holiday lights will have dry roads as temperatures fall to the middle 30s for lows overnight.

Sunday will be cloudy with drizzle in the morning and afternoon. Murky conditions may slow motorists down as they head to tailgating parties, Ford Field or their favorite sports den to cheer on the Detroit Lions against the Minnesota Vikings for their 4:25 pm ET game.  Highs will be near 40 degrees.

Music-lovers will drive and walk on slightly damp road conditions as they go to and from downtown Detroit Opera House to listen Andrea Bocelli Sunday evening.

Monday will be milder despite mostly gray skies. Highs will be in the middle and upper 40s for folks going back to work and school. Afternoon readings will reach the 40s, again, on Tuesday with a better chance or rain showers during the day. As colder air arrives Tuesday evening, the rain will mix with snow. Then snow showers are possible Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday get colder again with partly to mostly sunny skies. Highs will be in the 30s. Lows will be in the 20s.
