Sunshine followed by clouds and rain by late-Sunday afternoon, evening

Cooler, highs near 60

DETROIT – Showers return to Detroit in Southeast Michigan Sunday, but the chance of inconvenient weather is more likely in the late afternoon and during nighttime hours. Then it feels more like fall by midweek.

Sunday will begin with bright conditions. It will be sunny but chilly with temperatures in the 30s and low 40s at dawn. Families going to services will need their jackets and have to cover up their extremities to stay warm.

Good weather follows the Tigers for the start of their series finale with the White Sox. First pitch is at 1:08pm EDT at Comerica Park. Skies will become partly sunny and it will be cool with temperatures in the low 50s midday. Baseball fans will need their favorite Tigers jacket, hat and even gloves to stay warm.

It will be cloudy by the end of the baseball game. It remains cool with highs only near 60°. Rain is on the way but it will not make it to downtown Detroit until 6pm EDT. Area south of 94 in Lenawee and Monroe Counties may see sprinkles and light rain before then; between 4pm and 6pm EDT.

The best chance of rain disrupting plans is during the dinner hour starting at 6pm EDT and going through Sunday night. Rain will be heavy at times, especially after the 8:19 PM sunset. Showers and thunderstorms are possible after nightfall.

Sunday night still has a chance of being wet with showers and a few thunderstorms. Low temperatures will stay above freezing and be in the 40s.

Showers linger for early Monday morning before sunrise. There'll be a long in the rain action during the middle of the day but Detroiters need to watch out for showers to redevelop and re-emerge for the ride home from work and while picking the kids up from school Monday afternoon and evening. It will be a bit milder with highs in the low and middle 60s.

Tuesday and the rest of the week will see a significant cool down. Lows will be in the 30s and highs will be in the 50s Tuesday through Friday. Sunnier skies return by Wednesday and afterward.
