This is the summer week you've been waiting for in metro Detroit!

But first, will we get a shower tonight?

DETROIT – Finally. The week ahead is going to be absolutely spectacular.

In fact, you may actually have to water your flowers and turn on the sprinkler system, if you have one.

But first, let's take care of tonight:

A weak cold front crossing the Great Lakes will trigger some showers and thunderstorms across northern and western Michigan through the remainder of the afternoon and evening hours but, after the sun goes down, this activity will start subsiding. So, some of us may get a shower, but I suspect that more of us won't. The best chance to see measureable rain is north of M-59/Hall Road/Highland Road. Lows in the mid 60s (18° Celsius for you Canadians). Southwest wind at 5 to 10 mph shifting to the northwest after the front passes by.

The forecast for Tuesday through Friday is then pretty simple: Mostly sunny each day with comfortable humidity -- absolutely perfect for outdoor summer activities. Highs generally averaging around 80° (27° Celsius) Tuesday through Thursday, perhaps in the mid to upper 70s north for those of you along the I-69 corridor. Overnight lows will be comfortable for sleeping, averaging around 60°.

By Friday, highs could reach the low to mid 80s.

Weekend forecast:

As for the upcoming weekend, it appears that a cold front could trigger some showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon or evening…stay tuned as I fine tune the timing over the next few days. Highs Saturday in the low to mid 80s, with nighttime lows in the mid 60s.

It appears that partly cloudy skies will return for Sunday, with highs in the low to mid 80s, and even next Monday and Tuesday look mostly sunny and warm!
