DETROIT -

Thursday morning will be mild with some sun, but Detroiters should plan for showers by the end of their day.

Early temps will be in the 50s. The afternoon will be warm with highs in the upper 70s. Showers and thunderstorms will begin to roll in after 2 p.m. The ride home from work or trips to the supermarket  will have scattered showers and storms. Anyone with a late day at the office or evening and nighttime engagements will run into more widespread precipitation with lightning and some heavy downpours.

Thursday night will have showers and thunderstorms that will linger into Friday morning. Lows will be in the 50s.

Friday will have morning and midday rain. By the time tailgating ramps up for the Red Wings playoff hockey game against the Ducks, showers and storms will leave with cool temps near 65 degrees.

The cool down continues Mothers' Day Weekend. Saturday will be partly sunny with highs near 65. Mother's Day will be chilly and breezy with morning lows near 40 and highs only near 55. Indoor brunch or dinner with Mom is a good idea.
