I-94 to be closed, detoured in downtown Detroit this weekend

MDOT to close portion of I-94 beginning at 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday

DETROIT – The Michigan Department of Transportation will be closing a portion of Interstate 94 in Detroit this weekend beginning at 9 p.m. Friday due to multiple construction projects, including bridge work on Van Dyke Avenue and Trumbull Street.

MDOT says Eastbound I-94 traffic will be detoured onto US-12, or Michigan Avenue, in Dearborn. The posted detour will follow Michigan Avenue east to I-96.

Motorists also can take an alternate route that includes northbound M-39 and eastbound I-96 to eastbound I-94. MDOT says EB I-94 will have only one lane open from I-96 to M-10.

WB I-94 traffic will be briefly detoured at Van Dyke Avenue, using the on and off ramps. Once back on WB I-94, MDOT says only one lane will be open from Van Dyke Avenue to southbound I-75.

Then WB I-94 will be closed and motorists will be detoured via SB I-75 and WB I-96 back to WB I-94.

MDOT said these lane restrictions are expected to end at 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4.
