DETROIT – Welcome to Memorial Day Weekend in Detroit and southeast Michigan. The unofficial start to summer will be warm and steamy. Best chances for storms are late-Saturday and Sunday. Memorial Day looks warm and comfortable; perfect for a dip in the pool.

Families going to the St. Mary's Polish Festival in Orchard Lake or Movement '16 in Detroit must prepare for the heat and humidity.
This is an excellent time to practice hot weather safety. Remember to wear light, loose-fitting clothes, drink water to remain hydrated and stay near or in air conditioned buildings. Let's look out for our pets and children by keeping them far away from empty vehicles. Hot cars are deadly!
Saturday afternoon will be hazy, hot and humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms popping up after 3 p.m. ET. The best time to swim is before that time, and everyone should keep their ears open for thunder and listen to lifeguards if they tell swimmers to exit the pool and get indoors. Highs will be in the middle 80s, and it will feel closer to 90°F.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Saturday evening with temps in the 70s.
Saturday night will be warm and muggy with temps in the mid and upper 60s. Showers and storms dissipate but return Sunday.
Sunday will be warm and remain steamy with highs in the low and mid 80s. The heat index will easily be in the upper 80s. Showers and thunderstorms are likely after lunchtime and remain possible Sunday evening and Sunday night ahead of a cold front.
The cold front passes over the region in time or Memorial Day, Monday. Skies will be mostly sunny. Temps will be in the low 80s, but the humidity will drop to comfortable levels. It will be the perfect day to commemorate our servicemen and servicewomen putting their lives on the line for our freedom. It's a great day to head to the pool and the beach, too.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be warm and bright with highs in the low 80s for students and workers going back to school and the office.
