DETROIT -

Saturday morning will be cool and lovely with lows near 60 degrees. Clouds will build at the mercury rises into the 70s by lunchtime.

A cold front will encroach from the north bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms in Saturday afternoon. Skies will be partly sunny with highs near 85. The chance of rain extends to East Lansing for the football game between South Florida University and the Michigan State Spartans. The game begins at noon. Fans may need their green and white ponchos to stay dry.

Saturday evening keeps the chance of scattered showers and storms. As sport nation's attention turns to Ann Arbor for Michigan Wolverines hosting the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, the 8pm start of the game may be wet with some lightning in the vicinity.

Wet and stormy activity leaves Detroit and Southeast Michigan Saturday night. It will be mild and become partly cloudy overnight with lows in the 60s.

Sunday morning will be filled with blue skies, and it will be mostly sunny in the afternoon. Pro football takes center stage as the Detroit Lions open their season at 1pm against division rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, at Ford Field. Sunday afternoon will be mostly sunny and mild with highs near 75.

It becomes warmer again early next week with more sunshine. Monday will have highs near 80 degrees. Some parts of Southeast Michigan may make it to near 90 on Tuesday.
