Sunshine, evening showers for Metro Detroit on Mother's Day

Highs to reach into the 70s

DETROIT – Happy Mothers' Day! Sunday morning will be cool and mostly sunny. Temperatures will be near 50 degrees at sunrise, which is at 6:17 a.m. ET. It will be a good morning for celebrating Mother's Day with breakfast at the MGM Grand Detroit, brunch at The Forest Grill in Birmingham or lunch at the Pi Banquet Hall in Southfield.

The Detroit Tigers take on the Minnesota Twins just after 1 p.m. ET at Comerica Park. Skies will be mostly sunny for the first pitch. Highs will be in the middle and upper 70s. After the seventh-inning stretch, scattered showers will form across Southeast Michigan, but much of the region will be dry.

Families with Mother's Day dinner plans will need to plan for more widespread showers and a few thunderstorms with temperatures near 70 degrees.

Wet weather remains possible Sunday night with lows near 60.

Monday will be warmer, but stormy weather remains in the forecast. Highs will be in the low 80s. A cold front has a chance of bringing storms with gusty winds, heavy rain, lightning and hail Tuesday. Highs will be near 80. Cooler air arrives behind the cold front Wednesday and Thursday with nighttime lows in the 40s and daytime highs in the 50s and 60s.
