WEATHER ALERT: Strong winds are on their way

Arctic cold front behind wind

DETROIT – An arctic cold front has prompted a Wind Advisory across SE Michigan from midnight until 6 a.m. Sunday.

The strongest winds will be between 3 a.m. and 6 or 7 a.m. with 25 to 40 mph winds. Winds at times could gust to 45 mph.

The cold air behind the front will bring temps down into the low 20s by morning and single digit wind chills. Those wind chills could last through the early afternoon.

By late afternoon mid 20s and breezy to windy conditions keep feels like conditions in the low teens at best. We will likely see a few lake effect snow showers or flurries Sunday, but nothing too significant.

MLK Day will be another cold one with light snow showers and wind chills near or below zero in the morning.

Temps won't climb out of the teens Monday and some areas could see a dusting of snow to an inch at most. Temperatures get even colder.
