DETROIT -

Those winds are cranking up here midday with reported gusts 40-50 mph around Metro Detroit.

Steady winds will blow from the SSW 20-35 mph and gusts will top 40 mph throughout the afternoon.

We are under a Wind Advisory until 7 p.m. for concerns of sporadic power outages and minor wind damage.

Traveling is also a bit tricky, especially for high profile vehicles and anyone flying out today.

Temps are mild in the upper 30s as we wait for a cold front to pass. We will see lowering temps this afternoon into the low and mid 30s and the gusts will be a bit more tolerable after sunset.

Colder air will return this weekend with nothing more expected than a few lake enhanced flurries early Saturday.

There will also be a few snow showers late evening but right now it looks like most of that snow will stay south of the I-94 corridor. So, this weekend is the start of cooling back to more winter like conditions.

Saturday will be in the mid to maybe upper 30s and still breezy, while Sunday will drop us down in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees. And yes… another polar vortex drops down next week feeling really chilly Monday and Tuesday. And, even colder Wednesday and Thursday.
