DETROIT -

A Winter Storm Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Periods of moderate to heavy snow and blowing snow continued Wednesday afternoon. In fact, we can expect to see snow coming down sideways until the moisture moves out of the area.

Temps are dropping into the mid-20s and the winds are tough, coming out of the north at 15-30 mph with stronger gusts. The system will clear from west to east and should be wrapping up by 3 or 4 p.m.

Slow evening commute expected

The evening commute will be very slow even though the snow will have moved on for the most part. Watch out for drifting snow on the roads all day.

Thursday will be colder, in the single digits early followed by highs only around 20 degrees with sunshine. If temps sink below 5 degrees, we will hit a new record low temperature for March 13. Also, patchy ice will make the morning drive difficult despite mostly clear skies. Afternoon sunshine will mix with some cloud cover and it will be another chilly winter day.

Warmer weather Friday

Warmer weather returns Friday. But, we may see a quick hit of very light snow in the early morning before the warmer winds pick up. Those winds SW 10-20 mph will bring temps back into the 40s on Friday trying to melt our new snow.
