Metro Detroit forecast: Winter Weather Advisory tonight, Saturday morning

DETROIT – Still tracking wind chills below zero this morning around Metro Detroit but mainly for the cold air as the winds are becoming lighter.

ALERT: A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect 7 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday.

Dangerous cold most of the day with wind chills getting above zero by 10 a.m. Mostly cloudy skies with a few very light snow showers possible this morning and a big snow maker coming tonight. Highs near 20 degrees this afternoon with winds S 5-12 mph. Temps will rise this evening as the snow moves in. Periods of heavy snow overnight means we wake up with of 3-6 inches of fresh snow. The Winter Weather Advisory starts at 7 p.m. Friday through noon Saturday for the heavy snow overnight, rain and/or freezing rain through mid morning Saturday, and dangerous travel conditions throughout.

Temps keep rising Saturday and that will bring a mid morning mix of rain, freezing rain, and sleet which should change to plain rain for most of the area through the late morning. This will make travel and even shoveling very tough ... be careful. We will likely get a break in the action during parts of the afternoon with highs in the mid to maybe upper 30s. Then, a bit more snow coming back into the late afternoon and evening that could bring another inch or slightly more.

Snow showers end early Sunday with cold air quickly returning. Temps near 20 degrees all day with partly sunny skies. We will keep our eye on this storm as we head through the week. Stay ahead of snow and cold with the Local4Casters app and take the weather with you.
