Zeroing in on the weekend rain details in metro Detroit

Plus, an extended forecast that you'll love!

DETROIT – TGIF! Friday evening into the overnight hours will pose no weather problems, although it may be a little cooler than some would like.

Clouds will increase through the night, but it should remain dry. Lows in the mid 30s (1-2° Celsius for you Canadians). Light northeast wind.

The storm system I've been watching all week is still on track to slide well south of Michigan on Saturday. Careful examination of the entire suite of afternoon computer models continues a trend that shows most of the moisture staying south of the state line. However, SOME of that moisture will lap across the border, so some light showers are possible across Lenawee and Monroe Counties, and possibly into parts of Washtenaw County. Rain chances dramatically diminish north of there. In fact, those of you up in the Thumb may have partial sunshine through the day. The clouds and the cool east-northeast wind off the lakes should hold temperatures in the upper 40s (9° Celsius), but cooler if you live near those lakes.

If, like me, you have outdoor plans, track the rain on the Local 4 weather app -- available for free in the app store (just search under WDIV). Also, people who follow me on Twitter (@PGLocal4) get quick weather updates -- and I frequently tweet radar images with arrows showing where the rain is moving. It's the best I can do to help you stay ahead of the weather.

Saturday's sunrise is at 6:38 AM, and Saturday's sunset is at 8:26 PM.

Any lingering showers Saturday evening will end quickly, with clouds moving out during the night. Lows in the mid 30s.

Mostly sunny to start the day on Sunday, then an upper level disturbance should generate partly cloudy skies during the afternoon. Highs in the mid 50s.

Finally, if you are a regular reader of my daily weather articles, you may recall my mentioning a few days ago that I believe that this cool weather pattern will start moderating next week and, by the 1st of May, we'll get back to the good stuff.

Well, I took a look at the real long range models this afternoon, and that forecast appears on track. In fact, we conceivably could see some 70s next weekend! Stay tuned.
