DETROIT – Two Detroit police officers have been charged in a child abuse case.

Officials said the crime in question happened March 1, 2024, in Genesee County while the officers were off duty.

Jared Shaw, 35, and Liana Shaw, 35, both of Flint, are accused of abusing Liana Shaw’s children, who are also Jared Shaw’s stepchildren.

They’re charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm by strangulation, second-degree child abuse, third-degree child abuse, third-degree child abuse committed in the presence of another child, domestic violence, and failure to report child abuse.

Both officers have been suspended during the investigation.

They were arraigned at 67th District Court and released on bond.

The next court date is scheduled for May 30.

The case has been turned over to DPD’s internal affairs department, and Flint police are leading the investigation.
