Married Detroit police officers accused of abusing their children, stepchildren

Officers suspended during investigation

FLINT, Mich. – Two married Detroit police officers have been charged with abusing the woman’s children, who are also the man’s stepchildren.

Officials said the abuse happened March 1, 2024, in Genesee County, while the officers were off duty.

Jared Shaw, 35, and Liana Shaw, 35, both of Flint, are accused of abusing Liana Shaw’s children, who are also Jared Shaw’s stepchildren.

They’re both charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm by strangulation, second-degree child abuse, third-degree child abuse, third-degree child abuse committed in the presence of another child, domestic violence, and failure to report child abuse.

The first four charges are felonies, and the final two are misdemeanors.

They were arraigned at 67th District Court and released on bond.

The next court date is scheduled for May 30.

Both officers are suspended during the investigation.

The Flint Police Department is leading the case.
