Truck, construction vehicle collision closes SB US-23 in Washtenaw County

Crash closes southbound US-23 between I-94, Michigan Avenue; drivers injured

WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – A crash has closed southbound US-23 between Interstate 94 and Michigan Avenue in Washtenaw County.

Michigan State Police say the crash involved a semi truck and a "Bobcat type" construction vehicle in the southbound lanes of US-23. Both the driver of the truck and the driver of the mower were taken to a hospital.

The mower driver, who state police say suffered serious injuries, is in critical condition at St. Joseph Hospital. The truck driver, who suffered minor injuries, is in stable condition.

State police say the the driver of the "Bobcat" failed to yield before attempting to cross the highway. The vehicle was struck by the semi truck, ejecting the driver.

Ramps from I-94 to southbound US-23 are closed. All traffic on southbound US-23 is being routed off at I-94.

Police say the southbound lanes likely will remain closed for the next several hours while debris is cleared. Police are investigating the crash.
