In the giving spirit this holiday? Here's how you can help

ANN ARBOR – For those fortunate enough to know the comfort of being surrounded by family and friends over a warm meal every Thanksgiving, there is much to be grateful for.

Unfortunately, this is not the case for everyone living in the Ann Arbor area.

Fresh Start Clubhouse Thanksgiving

Fresh Start Clubhouse is a community in Ann Arbor of men and women living with mental illness.

Every year, it celebrates with a Thanksgiving Day meal. "(We need) friendly neighbors to help us prepare our meal and space that morning, serve around noon, and clean up after. Would you like to be part of our family and meet our members? This is our biggest event of the year and nearly all of our members come out for it. We'd love to have you join us!" said the group.

At the moment, they are still in need of six volunteers.

Thanksgiving Meal Drive

Avalon Housing helps those with extremely low incomes in Washtenaw County find housing without preconditions and provides support so that they can stay in their homes.

The group knows that Thanksgiving meals can be financially taxing on families with low incomes and is currently taking donations of funds or food for residents.

Please contact Andrea at awilkerson@avalonhousing.org or 734-864-2295 to check in on specific needs and coordinate a donation.
