3 boys face multiple felonies in connection with armed robberies at Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor

Second robberies happened at Red Roof Inn parking lot

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Three teenage boys were charged in two separate armed robberies outside the Briarwood Mall and nearby Red Roof Inn.

According to police, several boys approached a vehicle Friday evening in the mall parking lot near Sears. One of the boys allegedly displayed a handgun while the other boys took money and cell phones from the victims in the vehicle.

About 10 minutes later, a second armed robbery was reported in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn.

A pizza delivery driver had just made a delivery to a room at the inn and was walking through the parking lot when someone asked the driver for change and several boys surrounded him.

One of the boys allegedly demanded the victim’s money, car keys and cell phone. The man did not immediately comply and was punched in the head, knocked to the ground and kicked repeatedly while at gunpoint.

The victim gave the boys all the cash he had in his pocket and the boys fled the area on foot.

Three of the boys were taken into custody after a brief foot chase. Authorities said a GLOCK handgun was recovered along with property from both robberies.

Two boys, ages 16 and 13, of Ypsilanti Township, and a 16-year-old boy from Augusta Township, were charged with armed robbery, attempted carjacking, weapon violations and conspiracy charges.

The boys are being lodged at the Washtenaw County Juvenile Facility.
