DETROIT – Michigan football still has one game left in the 2017 season, but it's never too early to look ahead to next year.

The Wolverines have an extremely difficult schedule in 2018, and that starts with a road game Sept. 1 against Notre Dame in South Bend.

Michigan officials announced Thursday that the game between Michigan and Notre Dame is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast on NBC.

Michigan and Notre Dame played an annual rivalry game through the 2014 season, when the Fighting Irish backed out of the game. The schools announced a renewal of the rivalry last year, sending Michigan to South Bend in 2018. Notre Dame will make a return trip to Ann Arbor in 2019.

Michigan leads the all-time series between college football's two most winning programs, 24-16-1. The Irish won the last meeting in a blowout, crushing Brady Hoke's team, 31-0.

It appeared Michigan would be facing a rebuilding Notre Dame program after the Irish went 4-8 in 2016 and teetered on the edge of a coaching change. But Brian Kelly turned things around in a big way, going 9-3 in 2017 and finishing the regular season ranked No. 14 in the College Football Playoff poll.

In addition to the road game against Notre Dame, Michigan will visit Northwestern, Michigan State and Ohio State in the 2018 season. All three teams are currently ranked in the top 25.

The Wolverines will also host Wisconsin and Penn State, which are ranked in the CFP top 10.
