It is the 59th year of one of the biggest summer events: Ann Arbor Art Fairs. Together, this is the largest juried art fair in the country and navigating it can be a challenge.
Meredith Bruckner, the community news producer at Allaboutannarbor.com joined us in studio to discuss how you can get the most enjoyment out of attending the event.
There are four fairs that are all rolled into one so the navigating the event could be challenging. The fairs are expected to draw 300,000 attendants and more than 1,000 artists selling their work.
Each fair is a completely different organization, with a different selection processes of which art they will feature at the fair. Some of the items you can expect to see are paintings, photography, jewelry, clothing, wood custom pieces and more.
There will also be a pop-up spirits garden, so if you would like to take a break and just enjoy a cocktail while you are there, you can.
We also welcomed artist Hedy Yang, who will be selling items at the fairs. Yang is a pottery artist and she brought some of her beautiful pieces. All of Yang's pieces are hand thrown on the wheel and she uses a primary technique called bubble glazing to mimic the marble look on her pieces.
Maureen Riley also joined us on the show to share how guests can easily navigate their way through the fairs. A numbering system is in place that puts all of the booths in the same numbering parameter as streets, buildings, and houses. Now each booth will also have a two letter prefix as well as a number to help guests better find artists.
The Ann Arbor Art Fairs run from July 19th through the 22nd.
