ANN ARBOR – For years, JLC Book Sale has been hosting events on front lawns of its namesake street Jay Lee Court on Ann Arbor’s south side.

But the event has grown so much, organizers have turned to larger venues in recent years to help accommodate the sheer number of books and shoppers.

This year, the sale will take place at Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds Nov. 6-9.

“We have been looking for a new home for our sale that is permanently indoors and protects us from the elements,” organizer Todd Whalen told A4 via email. “We’re happy there’s bathrooms and heat and WiFi. This may be our new permanent home."

Hours:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 6: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. - Teachers-only pre-sale (free admission)
  • Thursday, Nov. 7: 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. early admission ($10), regular admission is free from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Books are $1 each and on Saturday if you buy 10 books, you can get up to 10 books for free. Cash or credit are accepted.

Shoppers who bring books to the event may also qualify for book exchange credit. According to the event’s Facebook page:

“For every 10 books that you bring in that meet our standards and qualify, we will give you 2 free books. Bring in 20 books and get 4 free books. Bring in 30 books and get 6 free books, etc. This is a 20% exchange rate.”

JLC Book Sale will also be running a food drive for Food Gatherers during the event. Shoppers who donate food or funds will get two free books with any purchase. According to organizers, each dollar donated to Food Gatherers equals three meals, so cash or check donations are encouraged.

A4 readers who mention this article at checkout will also get a free book, no purchase necessary.

The Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds are at 5055 Ann Arbor Saline Rd.
