ANN ARBOR, Mich. – An Ann Arbor police officer is on paid administrative leave while conduct reported before he joined the department is investigated.
According to officials, Officer Michael Alvarez was a Pinellas County Sheriff’s detective in Florida before he came to Ann Arbor.
While a detective, Alvarez allegedly lied to obtain a search warrant for a crime, then used that warrant to obtain evidence to prosecute for other crimes.
Officials said because of Alvarez’s actions, charges will mostly likely be dismissed against a man who was arrested after a search of his home in 2016.
Detectives found videos of James Rybicki, 63, inappropriately touching a child during that search, officials said.
