ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Today on North Campus, the University of Michigan Campus Farm hosted a pop-up farmers market to sell its produce.
Passersby could purchase a range of fresh vegetables, including mini eggplants and kale; fresh flowers; mini pumpkins and gourds.

After receiving its Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification earlier this year, the farm began selling its produce to the university's dining halls.

Student farmer Kate Samra explained how it works and how other U-M students get involved in the program. "We started selling to M-Dining in June and the majority of our produce is going there. It’s all grown by students and now students are able to eat it in the dining hall, which is awesome. We also bring students out every week to the farm, where they’re able to help us harvest, weed, learn about farming and plants and get their hands dirty. They also take home food from the farm, too,” she said.

According to Samra, the event is one of many planned for this fall at the university. "There are four of these farmers markets this semester, but on Oct. 8th, (we) are having a Harvest Festival at the farm, so we’ll have community members out there, and students out there. The student food-related groups on campus will be out there doing activities. There will be music and lots of food to eat," said Samra.
