ANN ARBOR - A man has been arrested in connection with the assault of a University of Michigan student who was struck in the head with a chair while sitting at Starbucks, according to authorities.
Police said Chaquile Raheem-Frederick-Lo McKinney, 25, walked into the Starbucks in the 200 block of State Street in Ann Arbor just before 9 p.m. Saturday.
McKinney is accused of approaching a student who was sitting inside and striking the student in the back of the head with a chair.
Police announced Monday a person of interest had been taken into custody in connection with that attack and a second incident.
The second assault happened at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday at West Park. Police said a man approached a woman who was walking through the park and began punching her. She was hit at least 15 times, according to authorities.
Both of the encounters were unprovoked and neither of the victims knew the man who assaulted them, police said.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ann Arbor Division of Public Safety and Security at 734-763-1131 or the Ann Arbor police at 734-794-6939.
