Chevrolet wins car, truck of year at Detroit auto show

Full sweep of top awards for Chevrolet at NAIAS

DETROIT - It was a full sweep for Chevrolet, which took home top honors for both cars and trucks at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. 

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and Chevrolet Silverado were was selected as the 2014 North American Car and Truck of the Year.

It's the first time Chevrolet has won both awards in the same year.

The award is voted upon by a panel of 48 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. 

"The Corvette and Silverado truly embody the passion, commitment and focus that is driving us to deliver the most expressive designs, innovative technologies, and engaging performance in ever vehicle that wears the Chevrolet bow tie," says Alan Batey, General Motors senior vice president.

The Stingray 2014 was up against the Cadillac CTS and Mazda 3. 

The other truck and SUV finalists were the Acura MDX and Jeep Cherokee.
