Salk Elementary's principal spends night on roof to encourage student readers
Principal Denis Metty pitches tent on rood, other students camp below him
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A metro Detroit principal spent the night on the roof of his elementary school to reward students for reading.
Salk Elementary Schools Principal Denis Metty camped out overnight last weekend at the school in Clinton Township as part of his fulfillment of a bet he made with the students.
Metty told the students if they read enough books, he would sleep wherever they wanted him to do.
The students reached their book goal and sent Metty packing to the roof.
The school had an outside movie night Friday night to kick off the sleepover and some parents and students camped out on the grounds surrounding the school.
The school is just north of 15 Mile Road near Garfield in Fraser.
