14 million people uses dating apps like Match Mobile, Skout

DETROIT – If you're single and looking to mingle you can find true love on your smartphone.

Fourteen million people are using dating apps to help them in the search to find that special someone.

"They're not just using them for phone calls. They're making dates, reservations, buying shoes, buying books, so it's just as logical if you're spending more time away from your home, that you're doing more form your mobile phone and dating fits into that as well," said Julie Spira, author and online dating expert.

Many traditional online dating sites have launched their own apps and it's estimated that mobile dating apps will be a $1.4 billion industry in just two years.

Many offer instant gratification according to Spira.

"We call it location-based service dating, so if you're at a Starbucks and there's somebody down the street at a sandwich shop and you're on the same mobile app, maybe you can meet for dessert," said Spira. "14 million people use mobile dating apps."

The top 10 dating apps, according to Spira:
