Meals on Wheels is winner of Greektown Casino-Hotel contest

Greektown Casino-Hotel has announced the winner of its month-long charity program.

Meals on Wheels will receive a $15,000 charitable donation from Greektown Casino-Hotel as the winner (61% of total votes) of the online contest hosted on WDIV-TV's website, clickondetroit.com.

The other three participating charitable organizations, Gleaner's Community Food Bank, Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America and Detroit PAL (Police Athletic League) each received a smaller cash donation from Greektown Casino–Hotel.

"The charity program was developed in support of our July Free Ride Car-A-Day Giveaway promotion.   This effort was a ‘win' for so many people who are helped by these organizations that participated, " said Greektown Casino-Hotel's Vice President of Community & Public Relations, Marvin Beatty.  "Meals on Wheels plays a key role in assisting the citizens of southeast Michigan, and as the winner, we are pleased to assist them in their ongoing efforts with this donation.  That is also true of the other three charities and their supporters who exhibited great enthusiasm throughout the entire voting process."

During the July promotion, Greektown Casino-Hotel awarded new Chevrolet and Ford vehicles to lucky Club Greektown guests, as well as giving away thousands of dollars in gas cards, as part of the Free Ride Car-A-Day Giveaway.

This was the largest number of new cars given away (23 cars in 23 days in July) by a casino in one month in the Detroit casino industry's 14-year history.

"This unprecedented promotion certainly drew a lot of attention and traffic to Greektown Casino-Hotel, and the entire Greektown neighborhood, last month," Beatty said.  "The opportunity to win a new car by playing their favorite slots or table games generated plenty of excitement amongst our customers, capped by the selection of a new-car winner each night."

The four participating charities were nominated by Greektown Casino-Hotel team members.  Information on these organizations, Detroit PAL (Police Athletic League), Gleaner's Food Bank,  Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America and Meals on Wheels can be found on their websites.  Greektown Casino-Hotel and its charity partner, WDIV-TV's clickondetroit.com, invited the public to vote for their favorite charitable organization from July 1-31, 2013.  At the conclusion of the contest, the organization with the most online votes received $15,000, and the three runners-up received smaller cash donations.
