Givin' for Gavin: School hosts blood drive for Bloomfield Hills student

Fifth-grade student at Bloomfield Hills Middle School diagnosed with leukemia

Gavin Raab, a fifth-grader at Bloomfield Hills Middle School, was diagnosed in January with leukemia. As part of his treatment he needs frequent blood transfusions.

So, when his friends and classmates asked what they could do to help, Gavin's mom told them to organize a blood drive. And that's just what they did.

"Gavin's my friend," said classmate Amelia McCourt, one of the organizers of the blood drive. "It makes me feel good to help a good friend."

More that 100 people showed up Tuesday afternoon to donate.

"It makes me feel loved," Gavin told Local 4.

Two more blood drives are scheduled in honor of Gavin. The first at West Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills on March 31st. And Monday May 18 at Bloomfield Hills High School.
