While most are looking forward to a delicious home-cooked meal this holiday season, it’s important to remember those who won’t be having one.
More than 200 volunteers packed food Wednesday at the Valley Services building in Detroit to make sure senior citizens would have a hot meal on Christmas.
The effort is part of the 35th annual Meals on Wheels program.
“We have over 5,600 meals going out Christmas morning through the generous support of DTE Energy, and all of our volunteers here,” said Letty Azar, development officer for the Detroit Area Agency on Aging.
The meals will be delivered to homebound seniors in Wayne County on Christmas morning.
“It’s truly a wonderful experience to be able to deliver somebody a meal that needs it,” said volunteer Ryan Macik.
Volunteers are still needed to help pack hot food on Christmas morning and do deliveries.
