Gleaners & women aim to raise 1 million meals for local children this spring

Detroit – Poverty among children in Michigan has risen in past years, according to a recent study.

But this spring, Gleaners Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan is planning to double its efforts in helping to feed children in need by teaming up with hundreds of powerful women and launching its Million Meal Match campaign.

Gleaners' Million Meal Match will run throughout the month of April.

During that month, all donations made to Gleaners will doubled, and every $1 dollar donation will equal to six full meals. There are a number of ways to donate, information can be found here.

The campaign will kick off with two women's events, specifically aimed at raising meals for programs that feed hungry children:

Women's Power Happy Hour on April 7: Hundreds of women will gather at the MGM Grand in Detroit for savory food and a silent auction. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $150.

Another event will happen later in the month.

Women's Power Breakfast on April 21: More than 600 women (and men) will come together at the Eastern Market in Detroit for a light breakfast, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tickets start at $120.

More information including how to purchase tickets to both events can be found here.
