Record Store Day 2016 is upon us!

On April 16, record stores across the country -- and dozens in Michigan -- participate by selling exclusive releases. Some even have live bands perform to celebrate.

With so many new releases expected, where do you start?

Albums to look for

If you’re looking to build your David Bowie collection following the singer and style icon’s death in January, get in line early. His special releases will be available locally, but limited. UHF in Royal Oak is already warning vinyl lovers.

Looking to add some Hip Hop to your vinyl collection? Look no further than J Dilla's The Diary - a long awaited vocal album from the late producer. The LP will feature production work and verses from series of tapes that were discovered following his death.

Let the 'Force Be With You' on Record Store Day: Disney is releasing a two-sided picture disc featuring the Millennium Falcon and  two of The Force Awakens’ most popular new tracks, The March of Resistance bad Rey’s Theme. Star Wars Fans rejoice!

Where to go

Found Sound in Ferndale will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight on Saturday. Live music starting at 8 p.m.

Melodies and Memories in Eastpointe is celebrating with a live show and meet and greet with Frijid Pink starting at 1 p.m. Record Store Day exclusive sales start at 9 a.m.

Third Man Records will have indoor and outdoor RSD entertainment. With their "Rolling Record Store" parked out front of the midtown store, bands, food and drinks. One of their special releases come from none other than the White Stripes.

The White Stripes Peel Sessions on 2 colored discs, one red, one white. Having been widely bootlegged since their initial broadcast in 2001, these live sessions are enjoying their first authorized release in celebration of their 15 year anniversary.
