DETROIT – The B.A.L.L. Foundation will hold its 2nd annual Excellence Under 40 event Saturday, June 10.
The event will take place at the MGM Grand in Detroit from noon to 2 pm.
The four people being honored this year are Devon Buskin, Arielle Johnson, Ryan Mack and Jason Dixon.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Jade Burch.
B.A.L.L., which stands for bridging athletics and learning life skills, was founded by Randy Henry.
"It's all about working with young kids and trying to teach them about basketball, but at the same time, there's nutrition, education, and a very important piece called 'Surviving the Stop ," said Henry.
Proceeds from the Excellence Under 40 event Saturday will help support the "Surviving The Stop" initiative. The goal of that program is to build a better relationship between young people and law enforcement.
"Education is always a very big part of my (basketball) camp, so basketball is just a way to pull them in and give them life skills," he said.
The annual basketball camp will happen later this summer.
This weekend, the foundation will host its annual Excellence Under 40 event, which recognizes those who
work with young people to expose them to job opportunities, finance and business options.
"We cover those types of things because we want to give the kids a well-rounded look at the world," Henry said. "This also exposes them to things they haven't had before."
Tickets to the Excellence Under 40 event are $75.
The B.A.L.L. Foundation is now in its 22nd year. You can get more information at ballfoundationmi.org.
