Free Detroit event will ring in the New Year for 8th straight year
DETROIT – Detroit's New Year's Eve celebration is moving from Campus Martius to Beacon Park this year.
This will mark the eighth year for the event in Downtown Detroit.
"From the beginning, we felt it was vitally important to give Detroit and the surrounding metropolitan area a proper venue for celebrating the New Year with style, substance, and a healthy dose of that famous Detroit spirit," the website reads.
Here's everything you need to know:
Activities begin at 4:00pm with live entertainment on the main stage, fire pits, Kidz Zone, and plenty of family friendly activities.
Motor City NYE will feature free performances by Detroit’s hottest acts, including an appearance by Detroit native and Motown legend Martha Reeves, who will perform her ubiquitous hit song “Dancing in the Street”. Full lineup here.
Will there be food?
Yes, there will be something for everyone! In addition to the usual winter concessions like hot cocoa and s’mores, there will be numerous locations to purchase food from restaurants, food trucks and street vendors, so grab a friend a come join us!
Will there be beverages?
Yes, whether it’s coffee, water, or pop, or you want to loosen up with something alcoholic, we have you covered. Multiple vendors throughout the event space can take care of your non-alcoholic needs, and 21+ revelers won’t be without their favorite libations.
How much does it cost and is it open to the public?
The Drop has been and always will be free to the public. We welcome anyone who would like to come down and celebrate with us. There is no charge for general entry to the immediate area surrounding the Drop. (Private ticketed/tented areas are excluded.) Motor City New Year’s Eve is proud to dedicate this event to Detroit and all its surrounding communities.
Where do I park?
Parking is plentiful downtown. Visit the Parking page for details. Also, don’t forget that, if you’ve had a few too many of the libations mentioned above, you can use Uber, LYFT, or call a taxi.
People Mover – get off at the Times Square People Mover Station and walk 5 minutes (0.2 miles)
QLine – get off at Grand Circus Park and walk 8 minutes (0.4 miles)
Where is Beacon Park?
Beacon Park is on Grand River, between Cass Ave and Bagley Ave.
