Florida boy runs to honor slain Detroit police officer

DETROIT – Zechariah Cartledge ran a mile around his elementary school in Florida to pay respects to fallen Detroit police Officer Rasheen McClain.

He ran to honor McClain, his family and the entire Detroit Police Department. In a video that has gone viral, the 11-year-old boy is supported by several local law enforcement officers in Florida.

At the end of his run, Zechariah showed his support for Officer McClain and all officers struggling with the loss of their friend and brother.

“To the family, I’ll be sending you this flag as well as a hand-written note in your honor, that I pray you find comfort and heal during this hard time of sorrow," he said.

Zechariah started his non profit “Running for Heroes” to raise awareness for officers killed in the line of duty.
