The Michigan Humane Society said Chairman Waffles was brought to them in September, barely able to breath.

"When he came to us, he had dead skin covering his mouth and face," said Kevin Hatman, MHS spokesman. "We're assuming that he got into some dangerous chemicals and tried to drink them. If he hadn't come to MHS, he probably wouldn't have survived outside."

MHS vets removed portions of the cat's face and then performed reconstructive surgery.

The 10-month-old shorthair is now looking for a forever home.

MHS said he's friendly, curious and likes to cuddle.

His injuries are still healing, but will require specialized care throughout his life.

He will need an extra special adopter who understands his condition and how it must be treated in the future.

Chairman Waffles is up for adoption at the Detroit facility: 313-872-3400.
