Cruisin' Hines gives cruisers another chance to ride after the Dream Cruise

Hines Park on August 25 will have thousands of people taking in classics & hot rods

DETROIT – "So one day I got an idea," says Don Nicholson, promoter of Cruisin' Hines, "My wife always worries when I get ideas."

His idea was Cruisin' Hines -- a cruise that takes place in Hines Park and had its start 3 years ago. They had predicted between 400-500 cars the first year. Over 24,000 showed up.

"Back in the 70's-early 80's, Hines Park was the place for cruising on the west side," says Nicholson, "Every weekend the park was full of cars and people.  Of course back then the cars were not classics -- they were our daily drivers."

Many of the car cruisers I've spoken have talked about this cruise. Their biggest reason for excitement? The fact that historic Hines Drive between Ann Arbor Trail & Outer Drive will be closed off to just the classics & hot rods. No "normal" traffic. Just the beautiful old rides car enthusiasts love to see.

The event will have music, face painting, food, museum exhibits, and much more. But as with all cruises, the main attraction is driving by.

"To sit on a hill or the side of the road and watch nothing but classics and hot rods non-stop for 8 solid hours is just amazing," says Nicholson, "Even if you are not the 100% die hard car guy -- the show is amazing."

The cruise starts at 9am on August 25. The new entrance for this year is on Merriman Road. Spectators can enter at Merriman Road, Telegraph Road. and Warrendale Road.

There's a zero tolerance policy on burnouts and all state laws still apply.
