ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Fish sculptures made of recycled plastic to represent each of the Great Lakes will be on display at the Detroit Zoo through July 9.
The sculptures, made by 150 Detroit Public Schools students, are to illustrate the impact that plastic has on freshwater animals.

ArtRoad volunteers assisted the students. ArtRoad is a nonprofit organization that provides art materials and projects to students.
“This exhibit encourages the community to join us on our Green Journey to help keep plastic out of our Great Lakes,” said Ron Kagan, executive director and CEO of the Detroit Zoological Society.
According to the Alliance for the Great Lakes, 87 percent of the trash picked up at beaches on the Great Lakes during cleanup days last year was plastic.
The sculptures will be unveiled during GreenFest on Saturday.
GreenFest is an event on Earth Day featuring engaging earth-friendly exhibits and activities.
The traveling fish exhibit will be on display in the Ford Education Center.
