Empowerment in Detroit: Women Innovators meet over brunch

Beyond Brunch Detroit meets once a month

By Sierra Pedraja - Editor

DETROIT - Briana Carlesimo recently launched Beyond Brunch Detroit in the hopes of creating an intimate group where young, innovative and career-minded women can gather to find mentors or connect with others with similar backgrounds.

"I started this organization because I've always been a big supporter of helping women and girls reach their full potentials,” said Carlesimo. “ As a new professional, there weren't many organizations that catered to helping millennial-aged people, especially women, and I feel like this is a vital time period for testing different careers or finding your niche."

The first event was held in November and (due to the holiday season) the second event was held in mid-January.

This month’s meet-up included transmission pipeline engineer and founder of the Goal Getters Group,  Jereshia Hawk .

“Just creating a community for women to come together, connect with one another, support one another, and really empower each other to pursue whatever passion they have is what drew me to the organization,” Hawk said.  "I'm really passionate about helping increase representation of women in higher-level leadership positions, both in corporate America and entrepreneurship.”

Beyond Brunch Detroit holds an event once a month. You can find more information about upcoming events here.
